Brahms invites Abraham to enjoy some of Vienna's musical and non-musical attractions. Abraham's diplomatic duties take him to Bosnia, Serbia and Galicia, to report on developments in the far-flung parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Abraham discusses the US Constitution with Crown Prince Rudolph, heir to the Hapsburg throne, who wants to reform the empire he will one day inherit. Abraham meets the beautiful widow, Elizabeth von Oberdorfer, who slowly changes his life.
